Focus on your goals baby girl Tee is from Keep It Bright
Hey loves! Let’s talk about “FOCUS”.
Focus is a topic I wanted to talk about today. What do you think when you hear/ read / listen to the word “Focus”, do you think “damn I should focus more on my work? my life? my relationships?
Well that’s exactly right.
When I was growing up people would always say FOCUS on your studies because if you don’t you won’t find a good job, if you don’t find a good job you won’t get good money and if you won’t get good money you won’t have a good life!
Funnily enough I didn’t focus on my studies, I hated it as does every other high schooler. However from the beginning I know my strong point was always writing. I always loved writing, I felt like I could express myself in ways I couldn’t just with talking. After leaving college and doing further studies I started to realise I really don’t want to be studying things that I felt like won’t benefit me in later life. Lets be honest I have not had to use algebra since college. Nevertheless I continued, I did it but my heart wasn’t in it. I became so baffled by a certain idealism that I stopped focusing on what was truely important.
That was me….
No it’s not a selfish “the world revolves around me” statement but merely the truth. I started focusing on things that I knew weren’t making me happy. Now please don’t think I’m promoting no education, no way! I think we should all be grateful that we get a chance for a great education, but specifically I meant higher studies.
After a while I stopped, I sat down and I thought, What makes me, me? What are my talents? What am I good at? but most importantly… What do I love doing?
I always loved the idea of blogging and everything else with that package but I guess we all become scared in a way, we fear what if I’m not good enough? Nothing kills dreams more than our own insecurities. Regardless, I decided to FOCUS, put my passion into the works.
I still remember putting up my first blog post and being so eager to see who viewed my post and for about 1 week I had 0 views, I was so disheartened I thought “Clearly I’m not good enough” Funny how automatically our brains go into this negative though process. But I focused on it and I strived to be the best I could be. I kept going no matter what the response was.
Don’t ever feel afraid to focus on yourself. You don’t have to hang out with friends everyday, take time for yourself. Focus on your health and wellbeing. You have to be comfortable with the person you are, because in life it will always be you. Nurture yourself. One of my favourite quotes is “I’m not being greedy, I’m taking care of myself, I’m thinking of myself first and god knows I’m sorry to myself that it took me so long to realise this – UNKNOWN”
Now whether you want a new career, a change in life, whether you want to publish that incomplete book that you have been hiding in your second drawer, become an entrepreneur, or you just want to focus on yourself. You need to take a big breath and FOCUS. Another great quote I love to reread time to time is “Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life – UNKNOWN” This is so important. The time is now, not tomorrow, not a week from now or a year. It’s now.
Your biggest critic and biggest supporter is you. Like Prince Ea said if you kinda want something you will kinda get the result. Focus on whatever sets that fire within you.
Let it be yourself, your goals, you can do it.
